EDUCATIONAL CONTENT EDITORS SOUGHT

The Educational Policy Improvement Center (EPIC) is seeking consultants
for a four-year project designed to improve alignment between secondary
and postsecondary education in Texas. The project is sponsored by the Texas
Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and is being conducted in
three phases. Currently, they are working with vertical teams in Texas to
develop College Readiness Assignments (CRAs) as part of the third phase of
implementation. They are now seeking content editors to review draft
versions of CRAs in the following subject areas: Biology, Chemistry,
English, Government, History, Math, and Physics.

Chosen editors will be responsible for content and copyediting of
manuscripts for up to 18 extended performance assessment tasks at the
12th grade level in their assigned subject area. You will be developing
illustration specifications, obtaining permissions, if needed, and keeping
records of those permissions. You must have a minimum of 3 years writing
and editing experience, in addition to teaching experience at the high
school level, in the subject area. You must possess knowlege of the high
school subject curriculum, have a college degree in the subject area, and
have experience with Microsoft Word.

Finally, you must have high-speed Internet, a Web browser, Adobe Acrobat,
and the ability to read and manipulate Microsoft Office documents. Work
estimation is 100 hours from mid-July to the end of August. Questions about

ANGER STORIES NEEDED

ARISE Foundation is a not-for-profit organization (ariselife-skills.org)
that educates high-risk youth and gives them the tools they need to stay
out of the adult prison system and grow into productive, successful
individuals.

ARISE is looking for short, memorable stories about anger. Stories should
be realistic and contain valuable lessons that inform youth about the
dangers of letting anger run their lives. Positive messages and endings
that inspire hope are encouraged. ARISE is not interested in stories that
contain profanity and descriptions of violent, illegal, or sexually
explicit acts.

The youth who will be reading these stories are, for the most part,
incarcerated and read at a third- to fourth-grade level. Stories must be
easy to read and understand, but also compelling enough to capture the
youths’ attention.

People interested in writing for ARISE should have:
- Excellent creative writing and editing skills
- Ability to write clear, memorable stories
- Ability to provide 3–5 stories (approx. 250 words each)
- Ability to work independently
- Access to a computer with Microsoft Word (knowledge of Adobe InDesign
is a plus)

Plagiarism of copyrighted material is strictly forbidden.

Some topics worth exploring include: anger management, anger and substance
abuse, anger between family members, anger between boyfriends/girlfriends/
