Consulting firm seeks experienced science writer/editor for occasional
projects. Develop communication pieces (reports, brochures, web content)
related to ocean/coastal environmental sciences and resource management.
Must be skilled in distilling dense, jargon-filled scientific materials
into engaging, reader-friendly prose for non-scientific audiences. Ability
to quickly understand complex scientific information and work effectively
under short deadlines. You would be a contractor and could telecommute from
anywhere in New England but must be available for occasional meetings in
Boston or southern Maine. Knowledge of marine/coastal ecology, resource
management, oceanography, fisheries, coastal environmental issues, marine
policy, environmental economics, and/or land-use planning preferred. Must
be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. Projects
may include writing, copyediting, and/or other editing tasks. Experience
writing for relevant non-scientist audiences such as maritime industries,
commercial and recreational fishermen, resource managers, boaters, and
amateur naturalists is strongly preferred. Design/layout experience a plus.
